Get Rid of that “”Gummy Smile!”
Human teeth are surrounded by bone and soft tissue which is collectively known as the periodontum. Dental treatments such as crowns, bridges require a minimum amount of space between the bone and soft tissue of the periodontum. Crown lengthening therapy has been proven in improving and maintaining the space needed for a beautiful smile.
Is It Safe?
Crown lengthening has been a time tested treatment option. It implementation has allowed for dentists to save teeth that may have needed to be extracted in the past. Crown lengthening uses your own body’s healing mechanism to establish more ideal esthetics. Crown lengthening allows for a more predictable prognosis for crowns and bridges.
WHAT IS Crown Lengthening?
Crown lengthening is a time tested treatment to resolve common esthetic and functional issues. It is an in office procedure that is usually completed in one day. Within a few days, the gingival tissue remodels to the desired shape.
How Does It Work:
Crown lengthening utilizes your body’s remarkable healing ability. Dr. Campeas will expertly contour the hard tissues surrounding your teeth. Your body will then take over and the gingiva will remodel around the now ideal shaped tissue.

WHY DO I NEED IT:
Esthetic crown lengthening allows for a more esthetic smile with proper gingival shape and height (see figure 1) Functional crown lengthening allows for placement of a crown on an otherwise non-non-restorable tooth. A tooth that is fractured, experiences trauma or significant decay may require crown lengthening.
Not enough space for successful crown placement. Crown lengthening allows for crown placement.
What if I Don’t DO Crown Lengthening:
For a crown to be placed a minimum surface area of tooth structure must be remaining, including minimums of height, width and length. Without crown lengthening, the longevity and predicability for good prognosis of the affected tooth or area is compromised.

The counters of our gingiva follow the underlying bone. Having a gummy smile or short teeth is often the result of inadequate contouring of the underlying bone.In office treatment including functional and esthetic crown lengthening allow Dr. Campeas to give your smile a more natural appearance.
Dr. Campeas may have recommended that restorative dentistry, such as fillings, crowns or veneers be a part of your treatment to help maximize results.
