Do Kids who drink bottled or filtered water need fluoride supplements?
Dentists across the country report a growing number of very small children with multiple cavities. Some believe the culprit is the lack of flouridated water that many of today's famalies consume. Certain bottled water may or may not contain flouride and it is usually added to munincipal water. You can go to the International Bottled Water Association's website (ibwa.org) to assist with data on bottled water. The CDC web page apps.nccd.cdc.gov/MWF/Index.asp provides information about your local supply. Just remember that only reverse osmosis water filters remove large amounts of flouride, while carbon and charcoal filters let most of it through. Be sure to bring your findings to your dentist if you have any concerns.
